Juneau fish committee pursues public cold storage     July 29

Listen to StoryListen To Story   - MP3 Audio Stream

Producer:   Casey Kelly

Juneau's Fisheries Development Committee has revived interest in building a public cold storage in the Capital City. The committee had been dormant for many years before being reconstituted by the CBJ Assembly in 2009 (last year). One of its first projects was to look at demand for more freezer capacity. As Juneau's fishing industry has grown, so too has the need for more places to store fish. Cold storage buildings take up a lot of space and are expensive to operate. Private companies have come and gone over the years. Sitka, Petersburg, and Wrangell all recently built public cold storage buildings. Could Juneau be next? Casey Kelly has more.
