Voting by mail
For the second year, Juneau’s local election will be held by mail. This year’s municipal election day is on Oct. 5, but the city began mailing ballots out on Sept. 14.
City clerk and election official Beth McEwen answered some common questions that she’s heard from voters.

Virtual candidate forum
The 2021 Juneau League of Women Voters Candidate Forum was Wednesday, Sept. 8 on KTOO.
This year’s forum took place virtually. Candidates for the Juneau Assembly and the Juneau School Board joined moderators from KTOO and the Juneau Empire to answer questions about local issues.
Key dates
- Tuesday, Sept. 14 – Ballots mailed to voters who registered by Sept. 5
- Monday, Sept. 20 – In-person voting begins at Juneau vote centers
- Tuesday, Oct. 5 – Election day; mailed ballots must be returned and postmarked by this day. Ballots can be returned at Juneau vote centers. Secure ballot drop boxes and vote centers are open until 8:00 p.m.
- Friday, Oct. 8 or Monday, Oct. 11 – Preliminary results posted
- Tuesday, Oct. 19 – Official election results certified
