Juneau elections

This question asks voters to repeal measures the Juneau Assembly adopted in 2020 and this past February that mandate sharing real estate sales prices with the city assessor’s office.

Muldoon launched a write-in campaign less than two weeks before the election. And he won. It was the first time someone in Juneau had won any election as a write-in in almost 30 years.

Get to know the candidates during the League of Women Voters of Juneau Virtual Candidate Forum hosted by KTOO, KINY and the Juneau Empire on Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m.

For the past two municipal elections, Juneau’s city clerk had to fly to Anchorage with all of the city’s ballots to use the vote-counting equipment there. 

New voters must register by Sept. 4 to be able to participate in the election.

In their official duties, city staff must stay neutral on the ballot questions in the October local election.

The Juneau Assembly plans to hold public hearings and final votes on ballot questions related to new city infrastructure and how to pay for it.

Barring write-in candidates, all five incumbents seeking reelection to the Juneau Assembly and Juneau Board of Education are running unopposed. 

Assembly members were concerned including the advisory questions on the ballot could confuse voters and muddle the outcome of separate ballot questions that deal with funding major city projects.

City election officials have until next Thursday to review the additional signatures and to certify or reject the petition.
