School Board
Deedie Sorensen
Candidate for School Board
I think that we worked hard to keep students and family safe in Juneau during the pandemic. Our decisions weren’t always popular, but I do believe that the entire board and the administration worked to move in ways that were in the best interests of the community and our staff and our students.
Emil R. Mackey III
Candidate for School Board
I think I’m proudest about the way that we responded to COVID. We followed the evidence where it went, and we backed it off when the evidence showed that we could back it off. But I think we were always focused on the evidence and the best advice available.
District 2 Assembly
Wade Bryson
Candidate for District 2 Assembly
I just finished my first term. And during that time, I was chair of Human Resources Committee. And I’m now the chair of the Public Works and Facilities Committee. And I’ve been able to grow my knowledge of the city operations, be able to meet the people that the citizens that helped volunteer to make the city work. And with being on public works, I’m literally learning about like the water and the sewer system and what we do for streets and (that) led to me helping the process for city hall.
District 1 Assembly
Greg Smith
Candidate for District 1 Assembly
I think we had a good focus on helping businesses and residents during COVID and getting financial support out to them. We issued grants, credit loan program, did individual assistance, and while it was obviously super difficult, I think that did help businesses and people and families be able to make it through a really difficult year. I also think this Assembly has just had a congenial, good, hard working relationship and that we get along, we disagree, we look at what a priority is for the community, debate it and then come up with the solution. And I think that’s a welcome relief to maybe some of the political strife we see elsewhere.
Areawide Assembly
Carole Triem
Candidate for Areawide Assembly
The thing that I’m most proud of from my time on the Assembly so far is, during COVID and right after we had shut everything down in March of 2020, as soon as we made that decision, which was the right decision for everybody’s health, I said, ‘Okay, now we have to do something for the business owners and their employees that we’ve just temporarily put out of business.’ So we got a emergency loan program stood up and money out the door by early April of 2020. And that was well before any federal or state programs, were able to help, were able to distribute help. So that is the thing that I am most proud of during my time on the Assembly, and probably will be for the rest of my time.
