I think, in my experience as a parent, that the district has a pretty responsive system in place. I get text messages, I get voicemails. As a parent, I appreciate those. We’ve had a few situations lately that fortunately haven’t been momentous but were alarming, and I felt that, as a parent, I’ve been pretty well-informed as to what’s going on. So I don’t have any suggestions for improving those. I feel like it’s working on multiple platforms – email, voice message, texting. So I’m happy with that at the moment but obviously I’m always interested in learning if there’s better ways to do things.

I guess all routes possible, as quickly as possible. We’re human and constrained in that I think the district staff is fairly slim at this point. Text messaging, email. I know that when things typically happen, I get both. Also, I think if there are ways to put it out on other channels, not everyone gets to have their phone with them or is on a personal email when most parents are working parents. But as quickly as possible in whatever format is available at the time.

I think the district is doing a good job as far as communicating through email and text and alerting parents as soon as a situation is unfolding. These things are happening across the country, and unfortunately it’s very scary and it’s a reality. Just providing training on what the kids can do in emergency situations. I know they do that at some schools, I don’t know about all of them.
