Juneau International Airport officials have organized a simulated emergency exercise for Saturday. The exercise is required to be held every three years as part of the airport’s FAA certification.

Air traffic controllers in Yellowknife, Canada, joined in a widespread, pizza-based act of goodwill recently as the U.S. federal employees’ unpaid payday came and went.

Disappointed by the last round of union negotiations, airline workers again rallied at airports across the west coast, including Juneau International Airport.

The grant will cover replacing a hangar built in 1966 that was later repurposed to store sand and chemicals. The project is expected to have significant impact on the local economy.

In Juneau, clerical workers, ramp staff and customer service agents sported neon green t-shirts that said “Show us the money!” as they waved signs on the plaza across from the airport’s drop off area.

The fines for drivers idling or leaving their vehicles unattended in the loading area at Juneau’s airport will increase to $100.

Both city-owned enterprises are seeing more traffic and more revenue from their users, and their budgets are growing along with them.

Juneau International Airport manager Patty Wahto said the plane circled and attempted to unjam the gear. Emergency personnel set up and waited for the plane to come in.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Juneau and northern Admiralty Island beginning at midnight tonight.
